Hospice

Are you or is someone you love facing a life limiting illness, or perhaps already facing life's end? If so, First Care Hospice will walk by your side to help you find the strength and courage to enjoy the many special moments you have left with your loved ones. There is no need for you to feel alone or overwhelmed… the experienced and compassionate care team of First Care Hospice is waiting to answer your questions and hold your hand through this important time of life.

Hospice Provides

Hospice provides specialized physical, emotional, and spiritual care to patients who are dying and their family members through the Hospice Team. The Hospice Team members include nurses, aides, social worker, volunteers, spiritual care provider, and physician medical director. Grief care is provided to family members following the death of their loved one. Hospice care is provided in the patient's home, group home, or in a nursing home.

When you call toll-free (866) 514-1142, a nurse will visit with you about hospice care, answer your questions, tell you how services are paid (i.e. Medicare, insurance, etc.), and even contact your doctor for you.

Volunteering with Hospice

Community members who commit their time toward the mission of Hospice can participate in many different activities. Hospice volunteers can be a friend to someone who needs one, be a good listener, be caregiver when family needs a break, be a friendly visitor, read a book or Scripture, hold a hand, sit with someone who is dying, provide transportation, or help with every day household tasks. Volunteers may also help with office tasks or work at community events.

It is important to know that volunteers are never expected to do anything they are not comfortable doing. As a volunteer, you are encouraged to take care of yourself by being clear about when you wish to volunteer and when you need time to tend to your personal life. If you have questions or would like to visit with someone about being a hospice volunteer, contact Danielle Paradis, at (218) 435-7682.

Grief Support

First Care Hospice invites anyone who has lost a loved one to attend Coping With Grief and Loss Support and Education Group meetings. Sessions provide education on grief reactions, coping with loss, finding support, and getting through special days of remembrance. Sessions are held weekly in the spring and fall of each year. Sessions are free and open to the public. Call First Care's Hospice office nearest you for more information or to pre-register.
